The Story of New York Firearms Association (NYFA):
The New York Firearms Association (NYFA) traces its origins to the “Military Enthusiasts Shooting Club,” founded in 2017. Shortly after its establishment, the club was featured in an interview and news segment by Sinovision, becoming one of the first legal shooting and safety education organizations in the New York area, specifically targeting military and law enforcement communities.
In 2019, the club formed a strategic partnership with John Jovino Gun Shop, the oldest and most historic firearms store in New York. Together, they organized multiple live-fire training and safety education programs, assisting new members in completing the application process and successfully obtaining New York City and County Pistol Licenses (NY Pistol License), among the most stringent and time-consuming firearm permits in the United States. This collaboration helped numerous individuals lawfully enter the community of responsible gun ownership and gained wide recognition and support from both industry professionals and the media.
As membership continued to grow, the organization officially consolidated its resources during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, reorganized, and was registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, formally adopting the name New York Firearms Association (NYFA). Since then, NYFA has focused on promoting firearm safety education, legal advocacy, and community cooperation, with a mission to foster a culture of responsible, law-abiding, and well-trained firearm ownership, enhancing both public safety and individual self-defense awareness.
