Celebrating America's 250th Anniversary | NYFA Independence Day Live-Fire Range Event Showcases CCW Students' Training Achievements

The 250th anniversary of the United States marks not only a historic milestone, but also an opportunity to reflect on the values of liberty, the rule of law, and civic responsibility. During the Independence Day holiday, the New York Firearms Association (NYFA) hosted a members only live-fire range event where Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) students demonstrated the skills they had developed through training under the guidance of certified instructors. Through safe, organized range practice and fellowship, members reinforced the responsibilities and discipline expected of lawful firearm owners while commemorating America's 250th anniversary within the shooting community.

On July 5, 2026, following the Independence Day holiday celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States, the New York Firearms Association (NYFA) held its "Celebrating America's 250th Anniversary" live-fire range event for members. Participants from across the region gathered at the range to commemorate this historic occasion through safe and structured firearms training while demonstrating their commitment to firearm safety, the rule of law, and responsible citizenship.

Before live-fire activities began, all participants completed the range's mandatory safety briefing and equipment inspection in accordance with established safety procedures. Under the supervision of instructors, members proceeded through each stage of training in an orderly manner. Every step from firearm inspection and loading to proper grip, sight alignment, and firing was conducted according to standardized safety protocols, reflecting the members' strong commitment to responsible firearm handling.

The event also welcomed many first time NYFA participants. With the guidance and encouragement of experienced instructors, new members became familiar with range rules, firearm handling procedures, and essential safety requirements. Beginning with fundamental safety principles, they developed proper habits that serve as the foundation for responsible firearms ownership.

Several students who had completed the Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) safety course also participated in the event, applying their classroom instruction in a live-fire environment. Under the one on one guidance of instructors, students repeatedly practiced safe firearm handling, proper grip, sight alignment, trigger control, and shooting rhythm. Through hands-on experience, they gained a deeper appreciation that marksmanship is developed through consistent practice, while safe firearm habits must be reinforced during every training session.

The CCW course is taught and certified by the Tactical Security & Defense Training Center (TSD). Many TSD instructors are also longtime NYFA members and leaders who have dedicated themselves to firearms education, safety training, and community outreach. Over the years, NYFA and TSD have maintained a close partnership to provide members with professional, practical instruction that not only enhances shooting proficiency but also strengthens their understanding of applicable laws and firearm safety standards.

Members of the NYFA Anti-Gun Violence Patrol Unit also participated in the day's range training. The Patrol Unit's primary mission consists of community patrols, public safety observation, and volunteer service, and it does not engage in armed patrol duties. Team members emphasized that continuing firearms safety education, maintaining proficiency through regular practice, and understanding applicable laws are essential responsibilities of every lawful firearm owner and important components of fostering a mature culture of firearm safety.

For many participants, the event represented more than a routine day at the range. Held during the celebration of America's 250th anniversary, it provided an opportunity to reflect on both the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. The rights protected by the Second Amendment are inseparable from lawful conduct, personal discipline, and a steadfast commitment to safety. Every adherence to safety rules, every lawful handling of a firearm, and every dedicated training session reflects a commitment not only to oneself but also to one's family and the broader community.

As a nonprofit organization, NYFA remains committed to promoting a lawful, safe, and responsible firearms culture through member engagement, firearms safety education, and organized shooting activities. In partnership with TSD, NYFA will continue expanding professional training and educational opportunities to help more members of the public develop a thorough understanding of firearm safety, respect for the law, and responsible firearm ownership, ultimately contributing to safer communities.
