On Sunday, June 15, 2025, a Father's Day afternoon that would have been warm and peaceful for countless families, the New York Firearms Association (NYFA) held a completely different celebration. There were no restaurants, no desserts, no fireworks, only the shooting range, the sound of gunfire, and silent promises.

Participants came from all walks of life, from law enforcement officers, veterans, business executives, and general taxpayers to young parents and small business owners, spanning three generations. Some were fathers, some were sons, and some were young people who had just started a family, but they all shared a common identity: citizens willing to take responsibility for their families and the constitution.

In addition to basic pistol handling, this training program included, for the first time, rifle and long gun shooting practice. The training was personally instructed by senior instructors with military and police backgrounds, focusing on basic firearm structure recognition, shoulder stock stability techniques, distance awareness, and control of continuous firing rhythm. This type of training is not only about skill development but also about preparing for and responding to potential risks.
In fact, the frequent occurrence of home invasions, street violence, and ethnic-based crimes in New York City in recent years has caused considerable concern among residents regarding public safety. This is particularly true in the Chinese community, where there have been numerous reports of Asian families being targeted by organized crime. Many Chinese residents have long relied on self-restraint and the police reporting system for protection, but in reality, limited police resources and delayed responses often leave victims overwhelmed. Therefore, a growing number of Chinese residents are recognizing that owning legal firearms, developing self-defense awareness, and receiving practical training are crucial options for protecting their families and property.

Against this social backdrop, the NYFA continues to promote safe and legal gun education, emphasizing the concepts of "knowing and abiding by the law, self-discipline and self-protection." The association is committed to eliminating public misunderstandings and fears about firearms, and through rigorous safety training, helps members acquire correct knowledge and operational skills in a stable and friendly environment.
At the end of the event, a middle-aged father from Brooklyn said: "We can't rely on others to protect us. As a father and a husband, I need to learn how to protect my family." His words were simple, but they deeply touched many people in the audience.

For many, this day was merely a holiday; but for these citizens who silently gathered at the firing range, it was a self-reminder, a quiet yet resolute dialogue about safety, responsibility, and freedom. In an era where this nation still strives for balance amidst diversity and turmoil, this group demonstrated to the world through their actions that true civic consciousness is the conscious choice to shoulder responsibility, not relying on luck for safety, but building it upon training, discipline, and a deep commitment to society.
