Honorary President Lin Leads NYFA Weekend Night Patrol in Flushing, Targeting Key Public Safety Areas

On the evening of April 19, 2026 (Sunday), as temperatures begin to rise, the New York Firearms Association (NYFA) Anti-Gun Violence Patrol Unit conducted a late night patrol operation in Flushing, Queens. During this operation, NYFA Honorary President Lin personally participated and led the patrol team, visiting multiple public safety hotspots across the community. Despite his demanding schedule, Honorary President Lin dedicated his personal time to join volunteers on the ground, demonstrating a strong commitment to community safety and leadership by example. Together with patrol members, he actively identified potential concerns, maintained situational awareness, and contributed to community protection efforts, helping to deter potential criminal activity through visible presence.

The patrol focused on several sensitive areas, including banking districts, parts of Flushing known for ongoing public safety concerns, and Kissena Park. Particular attention was given to poorly lit and isolated pathways within the park. In recent years, the park has seen incidents involving serious crimes such as homicide, sexual assault, and robbery, making nighttime safety a continuing concern.

Throughout the patrol, team members engaged in friendly conversations with local business owners to better understand real time safety conditions and gather community feedback. These interactions help strengthen trust and cooperation between the community and public safety stakeholders. During weekend nights, when police resources may be stretched, the NYFA Anti-Gun Violence Patrol Unit serves as an additional layer of community support. While not a law enforcement body, the patrol acts as the “eyes and ears” of the community observing, reporting, and maintaining a visible presence to help fill gaps in coverage during critical hours.

Honorary President Lin, who has extensive law enforcement experience, emphasized to team members that the mere presence of a patrol can provide a sense of security. For example, when multiple patrol members are stationed outside banks at night, residents conducting transactions feel safer. At the same time, such presence may deter individuals with malicious intent from acting.

The patrol unit will continue to monitor certain areas in Flushing with ongoing public safety concerns, including locations with a concentration of street level sex trade activity, and encourages a collective effort from all sectors of the community to improve conditions, enhance public order, and prevent further deterioration of the environment.

At the same time, NYFA hopes that through consistent efforts and positive engagement, the broader public will avoid unfair or misleading stereotypes about the Asian community. In particular, it is important not to associate Asian women with illicit activities based on isolated issues, and to work together in preserving the dignity and image of the community.
