As early summer began on May 4, 2026 (Sunday), the New York Firearms Association (NYFA) organized a seasonal shooting training session for members at a Long Island shooting range. Building upon its established handgun training system, this event further introduced rifle platform instruction, marking another step forward in the association’s transition toward a more comprehensive and multi platform firearms training structure.

The training was jointly conducted by several instructors certified by the National Rifle Association (NRA), including instructors Lin, Ng, and two instructors surnamed Wong. Among them, Instructor Lin, who also serves as President of NYFA, was responsible for the overall planning and on site supervision of the AR platform and long gun training segments, while the remaining instructors primarily oversaw handgun instruction and firearms safety education. Together, they formed a clearly structured and coordinated instructional team.

Compared with previous training sessions centered mainly on handguns, this event marked the first systematic introduction of AR platform rifles and bolt action rifles into NYFA’s formal training curriculum. This expansion not only responded to the growing training interests of members, but also enabled participants to better understand the operational standards and safety responsibilities associated with different firearm platforms within a more complete instructional framework.
During the live fire exercises, the AR platform rifle section, bolt action rifle section, and handgun section operated simultaneously. All training areas followed standardized safety procedures and step by step instructional guidance. From proper firearm handling, loading procedures, and safety inspections to trigger control and post shooting clearing procedures, every exercise was conducted under direct instructor supervision, ensuring a disciplined and well organized training environment.

In terms of curriculum content, the AR platform section focused primarily on firearm familiarization and safe operational procedures, emphasizing standardized handling and risk management. The bolt action rifle section concentrated on stability and precision shooting fundamentals, helping participants develop core marksmanship skills. Meanwhile, the handgun section continued NYFA’s existing instructional focus, with NRA certified instructors teaching proper grip, sight alignment, trigger control, and safe holstering procedures to ensure participants established a solid foundation in handgun operation.

The entire event was conducted in strict compliance with all applicable laws and range regulations, and NRA certified Range Officers supervised all training activities to ensure adherence to established safety standards. Throughout the instruction process, the teaching staff placed particular emphasis on the four fundamental rules of firearm safety and range discipline, reinforcing participants’ understanding of personal responsibility alongside technical proficiency.

In response to questions raised during live fire exercises, the instructors provided real time explanations and corrective guidance based on actual shooting scenarios, ensuring that every operational step met proper standards. Participants generally expressed that, under the guidance of professional NRA instructors, they not only gained a clearer understanding of different firearm platforms, but also developed a deeper appreciation for the importance of standardized firearms training. This event served not merely as a routine range session, but as a concentrated effort to elevate both shooting safety and professional competency.

The introduction of this rifle training system represents an important expansion of NYFA’s member training framework. The association continues to place systematic education at the center of its mission. In addition to continuously improving firearms training programs, NYFA also plans to gradually establish a volunteer training system for its anti-gun violence patrol initiative. These future programs will be developed in cooperation with Tactical Security & Defense Training Center (TSD), which will provide professional instruction and curriculum guidance. Training topics are expected to include basic legal knowledge, emergency medical response, public safety awareness, and community emergency assistance, with the goal of strengthening volunteers’ public service capabilities and sense of community safety responsibility.
NYFA consistently emphasizes that community education, public safety, and the lawful right to bear arms protected under the United States Constitution are not inherently contradictory. Rather, under professional management and within a lawful framework, these principles can function in a balanced and mutually reinforcing manner.
