On March 30, 2026, as the season of renewal begins, the New York Firearms Association (NYFA) held one of its first major range training events of the year. As one of the initial structured training sessions of the spring season, the event attracted many new members. The atmosphere on site was orderly, professional, and disciplined.

During this training, members of NYFA’s Anti-Gun Violence Patrol Unit participated throughout the session, undergoing systematic firearms and safety training alongside association members. All patrol unit members legally possess firearm permits and have received professional firearms training. This level of professional background is relatively uncommon among civilian patrol organizations in New York, where many members have not undergone consistent, structured training.

It is important to emphasize that during routine volunteer patrols, all patrol members strictly comply with applicable laws and regulations, and do not carry or deploy firearms. The primary purpose of this range training is to further strengthen members’ understanding of firearm safety, operational standards, and risk awareness not for application during patrol duties.
With this solid and standardized training foundation, patrol members demonstrate a higher level of safety awareness and judgment in community service. During daily patrols, their ability to observe unusual situations, identify potential risks, and respond calmly to unexpected incidents has become more rational and methodical. This helps reduce misjudgments and prevents escalation, thereby contributing more effectively to maintaining community safety.

The training adhered to a safety first principle, with professional instructors providing step by step guidance. The curriculum covered fundamental operations, shooting techniques, and practical applications. New members, after completing rigorous safety instruction, gradually progressed to live fire exercises, showing strong engagement and noticeable improvement. Experienced members and patrol unit participants actively assisted on site, sharing their knowledge and demonstrating strong discipline and teamwork.

This spring training effectively enhanced members’ firearm safety awareness and basic shooting skills, while further strengthening the professional standards of the patrol unit. It reflects NYFA’s long term commitment to standardized training and community safety initiatives. Moving forward, the association will continue to refine its training system and integrate it with volunteer patrol services, striving to build a safer and more orderly community environment.
