Legal gun ownership and basic knowledge: NYFA and the Northeast Chamber of Commerce jointly held a public lecture.

On the weekend of May 26, 2024, the New York Firearms Association (NYFA) and the Northeast Chamber of Commerce in the United States hosted a seminar on legal gun ownership and basic knowledge as part of a public service event in Coney Island, Brooklyn. The seminar aimed to provide participants with basic safety knowledge about firearms, self-defense legal principles, and proper firing techniques to promote public understanding and application of firearms.

During the seminar, pistol instructors from the New York Firearms and Shooting Association provided a detailed explanation of basic firearm safety principles and operating procedures, emphasizing the importance of safe firearm use. They demonstrated to participants how to properly store and handle firearms to prevent accidents. They also explained key points of firing, including target identification, maintaining a safe distance, and proper grip on the weapon.

In addition, they explained the basic principles of self-defense laws, helping participants understand under what circumstances it is legal to use firearms for self-defense. They also shared their personal experiences on how to remain calm in emergencies and how to protect themselves and others within legal limits.

The speakers emphasized the importance and dangers of firing a gun. They taught participants how to identify suitable shooting locations and stressed the necessity of a safe shooting environment. They specifically pointed out the difference between firing at home and on the street, emphasizing the need to be mindful of the surrounding environment and family safety when firing at home, while requiring greater vigilance and legal justification for firing on the street.
The event also included interactive sessions where participants could ask the instructors questions and learn more about precautions for practical use. The New York Firearms Association and the Northeast Chamber of Commerce in the United States hope that through such events, they can raise legal and safety awareness among community members and reduce potential risks associated with firearms use.

Finally, the speakers meticulously explained the importance of gun laws, detailing gun control laws in New York City, upstate New York, Long Island counties, and other states, reminding participants to comply with relevant regulations. They also provided guidance on home and street self-defense laws to ensure participants did not violate the law when using firearms for self-defense.
After the seminar, participants expressed that they had benefited greatly and gained a deeper understanding of the legal ownership and use of firearms.
