NYFA Establishes Anti–Gun Violence Patrol Unit to Strengthen Community Collaboration and Public Outreach

Sunday, December 28, 2025. The New York Firearms Association (NYFA) officially announced the establishment of its internal Anti–Gun Violence Patrol Unit, marking a significant milestone in the Association’s efforts to enhance community safety, public education, and opposition to gun violence.

The New York Firearms Association is a lawfully registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity. While steadfastly defending the lawful civil rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, NYFA has long been committed to promoting firearm safety, public education, and a culture of responsibility, and it explicitly opposes all forms of gun violence. At the inauguration ceremony held on the same day, Honorary President Lin, Zhuang Rong (English name: John Lin) delivered the opening address, outlining the purpose, positioning, and future direction of the newly formed Patrol Unit.

In his remarks, President Lin stated that the establishment of the Anti–Gun Violence Patrol Unit represents a concrete extension of NYFA’s core mission at the community level. He emphasized that a community patrol initiative centered on opposing gun violence and launched by a firearms related nonprofit organization is groundbreaking in New York. This model seeks to move beyond traditional adversarial frameworks by emphasizing responsibility, education, and community engagement, offering a new cooperative pathway to public safety.

According to NYFA, the Association’s long term work focuses on six core areas: protection of constitutional rights, firearm safety training, public education, community engagement, rational legislative advocacy, and opposition to gun violence. The creation of the Anti–Gun Violence Patrol Unit is a practical implementation of these principles within local communities.

In subsequent remarks, President Lin further clarified that the Anti–Gun Violence Patrol Unit is not a law enforcement body and does not engage in any confrontational activities. Its role is clearly defined. The Patrol Unit will focus primarily on public outreach and community education, with particular attention to firearm safety awareness, domestic violence prevention, and conflict de-escalation. He noted that members will act as observers, reporters, volunteers, and community partners, operating lawfully and responsibly. By increasing visibility and facilitating constructive dialogue, the Patrol Unit aims to serve as “the eyes and ears of the police,” supplementing rather than replacing law enforcement functions.

NYFA also disclosed that the Anti–Gun Violence Patrol Unit is currently equipped with two patrol vehicles and plans to collaborate with other civilian community patrol organizations in the future. Through communication, coordination, and strategic planning, these partnerships aim to enhance the efficiency and coverage of volunteer patrol efforts and to build a complementary, cooperative community safety network.

NYFA reiterated its belief that true public safety arises from education, participation, and mutual respect not fear or confrontation. In his address, President Lin stressed that firearms themselves are not the root cause of violence; rather, the lack of responsibility, insufficient education, and weak community connections are major contributors to public safety risks. Guided by this philosophy, NYFA has chosen to proactively engage with communities, working alongside residents, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and relevant institutions to help create a safer, more transparent, and more trust based community environment.

The Association emphasized that the establishment of the Anti–Gun Violence Patrol Unit is not an endpoint, but a long term commitment to providing stable, rational, and sustainable public safety support for communities, families, and future generations.
