On Sunday, May 17, 2026, the New York Firearms Association (NYFA) Anti-Gun Violence Patrol Unit held its “Anti-Gun Violence Patrol Unit Training Program” professional training course. In order to enhance the professionalism, discipline standards, and community safety service capabilities of its volunteer team, all volunteers participating in patrol activities are required to attend and complete the relevant training.
The training program was organized and professionally conducted by the Tactical Security & Defense Training Center (TSD). Instruction was personally led by NYFA Honorary President Mr. Lin, a New York State DCJS (Division of Criminal Justice Services) certified security instructor. The course combined classroom instruction with practical exercises and scenario based training.
Course topics included: basic community patrol operations; volunteer conduct standards and disciplinary requirements; foundational criminal justice and legal knowledge; self-defense and safety awareness; civil liability and risk management; patrol safety procedures; emergency incident reporting procedures; incident documentation and report writing; conflict de-escalation techniques; communication principles with community residents and law enforcement agencies; courtroom testimony awareness; emergency response concepts; basic fire safety; CPR and basic first aid knowledge; and basic radio communication operations. The curriculum comprehensively covered the essential legal, safety, and emergency response skills required for community safety volunteer services.

NYFA stated that establishing a systematic, standardized, and professional volunteer training framework is an important foundation for improving community safety services. The organization emphasized that this training program was jointly guided by New York State DCJS certified security instructors and a professional training institution, promoting a more institutionalized and professional approach to volunteer training and serving as a model for community based volunteer safety services.

Through the development of this training system, NYFA aims to further strengthen volunteers’ safety awareness, discipline, legal understanding, and emergency response capabilities. Many participants stated that the systematic training helped them better understand the behavioral boundaries and operational standards required in community safety services, while also improving personal safety awareness and responsibility.

In addition, the NYFA Anti-Gun Violence Patrol Unit has completed volunteer service project registration through the NYC Service platform and is publicly recruiting community volunteer patrol members through the platform, continuing to expand participation from residents interested in community safety services and further promoting the institutionalization and transparency of volunteer community safety programs.
NYFA has also completed registration for youth related programs with the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). The organization plans to launch Youth Volunteer Patrol and Public Safety Foundation Training Programs during the summer of 2026. These programs aim to provide young people with opportunities to learn about community service, discipline, safety education, and public safety career awareness.
The youth training curriculum will include community safety concepts, basic first aid, fire safety, radio communication, teamwork, and related subjects designed to help participants develop responsibility, self-discipline, and a spirit of public service.

NYFA stated that the training programs are currently provided free of charge to patrol volunteers, with the goal of improving the quality of community safety services through professional development and long term institutional growth. The organization also hopes to provide young individuals interested in pursuing careers in public safety, security, and related fields with opportunities to gain practical experience and professional training, while cultivating future talent with professionalism, responsibility, and a commitment to community service.
